I like to look at Bruce's work with its clean precision and beautifully organized compositions, and the surprises that come from realizing that these "real" objects and settings become an imaginary world. I mean that although Bruce paints from actual objects and rooms inspired by those in which he lives, the resulting paintings are transformed into total invention. It is not a copy from nature but exists only here on the canvas. Also I sense that there is still a bit remaining from that early interest in surrealism. I feel sometimes that I am looking at a place where some tremendous, mystical event has just taken place. The people concerned have just moved on out of sight, but there remains on the scene the residue of a magic moment.”
